About Viola Herbs

Viola Herbs is a medicinal herb farm, nursery, and apothecary near Spencer, Tennessee on the Upper Cumberland Plateau.

We approach our work with the land and the plants with respect for the perfect design of creation. That's why we incorporate principles of permaculture and regenerative, organic, and biodynamic techniques into our daily practices.

This is slow herbalism.

The plants are tended to, harvested and processed by hand. Each lovingly crafted small batch of medicine is a limited edition for that year. All of the herbs are grown by us.

We believe every community needs a local source for high quality medicinal herb plants and plant medicine.

Get to know your farmers and medicine makers

Tatiana Sakurai enjoys a life-long love of plants and gardening. She first started learning about herbs in her work as a professional cook, which she did for over a decade in the mid-80's to 90's.

The power of medicinal herbs was made clear to her in 1990 after she suffered a bad burn at work which was healed quickly by a home-made comfrey salve the dishwasher gave her. When she saw the amazing results, she got the recipe from him and made large batches of it for years afterward, giving it away to friends.

For the past 15 years, she has cultivated a private practice as an energy medicine practitioner, teacher, and author. By and by, she has been drawn to grow more medicinal herbs to support her work in the healing arts.

Since 2020, she has developed the herbal gardens, medicines, and nursery plants for Viola Herbs alongside her beloved husband, DK.

DK Brainard has explored the realms of holistic healing through multiple modalities for over 20 years. As a musician and life coach, he is passionate about the healing power of art and creative imagination.

He composes and produces original songs, sound healing music, and guided meditations. In 2022 he released a double album of sound healing music called Auric Fields, which was designed to strengthen the body's energy field and repair damage caused by harmful frequencies and radiation.

DK is a personal student of herbalist jim mcdonald and attended his herbal intensive program in 2010. He has also employed herbalism, before and since, for his own health and the health of his family, friends, and clients.

With his wife, Tatiana, he works to develop the herb farm and helps steward the land at Fall Creek Farms where Viola Herbs lives.

We dream of a world where we all access our creative capacity to create harmony, beauty, and peace for all living beings.

Viola Herbs is a private membership association gathered with the intention of creating mutual benefit through education and healing with plant medicine and community.

Membership is free and includes benefits such as access to our herb shop. All herb shop proceeds support the development of the farm and community education and healing resources.
